Here’s a Quick Green Smoothie Recipes Q & A
We get a lot of questions from our readers about SuperGreen Green Smoothie recipes so we thought we’d share our answers to the most frequently asked questions….
1. Is blending better than juicing?
Yes!! Blending is better than juicing. Juicing removes much of the fiber, phytonutrients and antioxidants when breaking the fruit or vegetable down. With blending, the entire fruit and vegetable goes into the blender without removing these valuable nutrients.
Fiber isan essential component of detoxification and is crucial for helping rid your body of toxins. Once you reduce toxins you’ll actually absorb nutrients better. Fiber-rich foods also help stabilize blood sugar levels and keep you feeling full longer but because juices are missing the fiber they don’t do a very good job at filling you up .You will undoubtedly end up being hungrier (and eating more!) if you drink juice instead of smoothies. You can read more about why we are not big fans of juicing here.
2. Can’t I just have an extra salad instead of a smoothie?
You could do this but it’s not optimal, especially if you have digestive issues. Your body actually assimilates considerably more vital nutrients from blended greens than from chewed greens because the blender breaks down the food into super teeny-tiny particles.
3. Can I just drink the same Green Smoothie recipe every day?
Yes and no. Sure, it would be better to drink the same SuperGreen green smoothie recipe every day rather than no smoothie at all. However, you’ll be shortchanging your nutrition if you don’t rotate your greens.
Just like we suggest you eat a wide variety of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, we also suggest you eat a wide variety of greens. This is because each and every green has its own unique nutrient, antioxidant and phytonutrient profile. For optimal health you want to switch up your greens and try different green smoothie recipes each week (we will try to help you out with this at Clean Cuisine!)
4. How far in advance can I make my SuperGreen smoothie?
You can make SuperGreen smoothies up to 24 hours in advance as long as you keep them cold in the refrigerator. I often make a double batch for so we usually only make a new one every other day.
P.S. If you use chia seeds, flaxseed meal or gelatanized maca powder, the green smoothie recipes will thicken over time. When you’re ready to drink, you may want to add more water. Another option is to put your smoothie back in the blender with 2 or 3 ice cubes for 30 seconds just before drinking to “freshen” it up.
5. How long does it take to make a SuperGreen smoothie and clean up?
From start to finish, it should take you no more than 5-7 minutes. Which is considerably less time, effort and mess than it takes to squeeze juice! We keep our ripened bananas in the freezer along with berries to make smoothie making even easier.
6. What if I don’t like the taste of my smoothie?
If you don’t like the taste, you can always add more fruit or dates for sweetness. The SuperGreen smoothie recipes we include in this post do not have a particularly high fruit to greens ratio. If you want to really mask the flavor of the greens simply add more fruit.
7. Why do you have chia seeds, flaxseeds and/or hemp seeds in every single green smoothie recipe?
The use of chia, flax and hemp seeds are to help boost fiber, protien, omega-3 and antioxidant booster. You can, of course leave these out of your smoothie. But we genuinely think the boost is worth it!
8. What is the best blender to use?
You really need a high-speed blender (1,000 watts or more) to fully break down the greens. We prefer the Luvele Vibe Blender because we think it has more durability than the competition. Having this blender on the counter is equivalent to having a built in smoothie shop in your kitchen.
