#2: Naturally Sweetened by Dates
This delicious smoothie recipe is naturally sweetened using dates in place of the typical refined sugar. If you’re new to swapping out refined sugar — then, this is a great place to start. Depending on the recipe, we’ll use coconut sugar, dates, date sugar, date syrup, maple syrup and honey. These naturally sweeteners have other nutrients and are much easier to digest. In addition, natural sugars do not cause an inflammatory reaction.
What is Coconut Cream?
Coconut “Cream” is the thick white substance at the top of canned coconut milk. To get the “cream” part, you first need to refrigerate your coconut milk for 5 or 6 hours or pop it in the freezer for at least an hour.
Once the coconut milk is cold, carefully remove the top with a can opener. Then, you can spoon out the hardened coconut “cream” off the top. The “cream” is what you will be using for the Key Lime Pie Smoothie Recipe. You can reserve the liquid water for other smoothies.

Ingredients
- 1 banana, frozen
- 1/2 cup canned coconut cream, chilled in the freezer for 1 hour
- 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons key lime juice, Nellie and Joe’s
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 cup water, chilled
- 1 cup ice cubes
- OPTIONAL: 1/2 cup spinach, stems removed
Instructions
- Please all ingredients into a high speed blender and puree on high for 1-2 minutes.
- Pour into 2 tall glasses and serve cold.
