Cranberry Blueberry Smoothie

A few months ago, we started adding cranberries into our daily smoothie and developed this simple Cranberry Blueberry Smoothie recipe with bananas. Cranberries have vitamin C and fiber and are a great disease-fighting antioxidants. These berries outrank almost every fruit and vegetable and pack more than 8,000 antioxidants in 1 cup.

This Cranberry Blueberry Smoothie recipe has no added sugar and packs a real superfood punch using Cape Cod Select frozen cranberries and Wyman’s frozen wild blueberries. This Cranberry Blueberry Smoothie is great for a snack smoothie during the day, a light breakfast or a post-workout refresher.

Boost your Cranberry Blueberry Smoothie

Depending on what my body needs, I add in these superfood boosters into my daily smoothie.

Collagen Powder: Collagen powder contains numerous amino acids and is rich in L-lysine (an amino acid) and other amino acids including L-arginine.  Several studies, one randomized of more than one hundred subjects who supplemented with the amino acids L-lysine combined with L-arginine showed that the combination reduced salivary cortisol levels as well as anxiety. We love the Vital Proteins brand of collagen powder.

Maca Powder: From insomnia to low energy, hot flashes to vaginal dryness and low libido, and even anxiety and depression, maca has consistently been shown to help women (and men!) with an array of bothersome hormonal symptoms. Terrasoul makes a great brand of maca powder.

Camu Camu Powder: The more stress your body is under, the more vitamin C your body needs. And your body doesn’t just need vitamin C to lower cortisol and fight stress, this critical antioxidant is essential for more than 300 different functions in your body. Vitamin C even plays a critical role in the creation of key feel-good neurotransmitters, including norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dopamine. And there is no better way to get your vitamin C than from a whole food, which is exactly what camu is. Another great superfood brand is Navitas Naturals, which my go-to brand for camu powder.

Flax Seed Meal: A great source of fiber, Flaxseeds are one of nature’s richest food sources of lignans, potent antioxidants that fight free radical damage and act as phytoestrogens. We like Spectrum Organics for flax seed meal.

Instructions

  1. Add the ingredients into the blender in the order they appear in the list above. Cranberries first, water last.
  2. Blend using a high-speed blender until well combined.
  3. Serve and enjoy.
