If you are struggling with stress and energy, then you are really going to want to pay attention to the superfoods included in this amazing chocolate banana smoothie. If you’re just looking for a delicious chocolate banana smoothie, then keep scrolling.

How to Make the Perfect Chocolate Banana Smoothie

When it comes to combating stress and boosting energy, superfood maca powder is definitely the most important ingredient in the smoothie. However, the other two superfoods in my recipe, cacao powder and camu camu powder, also have very powerful energizing and stress-relieving properties.

Add Superfoods to More Recipes

I realize that it may be a bit of a stretch to buy all three just for one smoothie, but once you have these superfoods, your options are endless. However, if you don’t want to spend the money, I would suggest that you at least buy the maca and cacao. Just those two ingredients alone will still give you tremendous energizing and stress-busting benefits.

Maca, Cacao and Camu Camu are Powerful Superfoods

Here’s a quick overview of these powerful superfoods and why they are so effective at helping our bodies. These superfoods in our Chocolate Banana Smoothie provides the energy and stress-busting results we need.

Maca Powder Helps Balanace Stress and Hormone Issues

A root vegetable, maca supports the health of the adrenal glands. It does this by enabling them to regenerate. It is particularly beneficial for balancing hormonal issues, especially those related to stress.

The hormonal benefits derived from Maca are due to the fact it is rich in plant sterols. Gelatinized maca powder is the best form to use because it is easily digestible and quickly assimilated. Plus, the published clinical studies showing maca’s effectiveness were all performed using the gelatinized form. Our favorite brand is Navitas Naturals and you can purchase Maca Powder online here.

Note: The gelatinized form of maca powder does make your smoothie thicker quicker. So drink it within 30 minutes of making it.

Raw Cacao Powder Has Tremendous Healthy Promoting Properties

This ingredient plays a very important role in the flavor of this chocolate banana smoothie. Cacao powder also has tremendous health promoting properties. The Incas considered it the drink of gods which gave rise to the scientific name of the cocoa tree, Theobroma cacao. This word is from the Greek words theo (god) and broma (drink).

Cacao Has 20x More Antioxidants Than Blueberries

Can you believe it? It’s true. Cacao powder has twenty times the antioxidant activity of blueberries. Cacao is also highly anti-inflammatory and has been shown to combat fatigue, balance hormones and improve mood. Although conventional chocolate bars are made with cacao, they are also made with sugar and dairy. Which we know are pro-inflammatory foods.Studies have found that adding dairy to cacao actually blocks the absorption of antioxidants.

You can purchase Raw Cacao Powder online HERE, and yes, it’s our favorite brand Navitas Naturals.

Camu Camu Contains 1180% of the Daily Value of Vitamin C

Although it’s hard to believe, one little teaspoon of camu camu powder has 1180% of your Daily Value for antioxidant vitamin C. The more stress your body is under, the more vitamin C your body needs.

Your adrenals play a critical role in how your body manages stress and vitamin C is absolutely critical for your adrenals to function properly. Your body doesn’t just need vitamin C to lower cortisol and fight stress. This critical antioxidant is essential for more than 300 different functions in your body.

Vitamin C is Very Essential

Vitamin C even plays an essential role in the creation of key feel-good neurotransmitters, including norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dopamine. If you are eating a healthy diet, then you surely would not have a clinically relevant vitamin C nutrient deficiency. But, if you are under a lot of stress, you could still benefit tremendously from additional vitamin C in camu camu powder.

You can purchase Camu Camu Powder online HERE and yes, Navitas Naturals again! 🙂

    Hello,
I am very interested in trying this smoothie. Would it be ok if I used almond milk in place of coconut milk? And may I leave out the oats and still get the same benefits?
I am learning so much from you as I have recently started eating clean to improve my life and my ongoing battle with fibromyalgia.
    Thanks so much!

Hi Renee! I am so sorry for the delay getting back to you. We are on vacation and I just haven’t had much access to the computer. But I am just thrilled to know you feel the info is helping you! I really do believe the clean eating will help you with the fibromyalgia tremendously. As for the smoothie–yes, those changes are totally fine 😉 Just don’t add cow’s milk! And please keep me posted on how things go…

  2. Hi Ivy,

Are high levels of Vitamin C good for someone with MS? I have read that high levels increase inflammation? I’m wondering about the camu camu – you talk about your husband but not yourself in this particular post.

Thank you for all of the hard work that you put into this fantastic site and all of the invaluable information and resources! My absolute fav recipe so far has been the Fresh Tomato Soup with tomatoes from my mom’s garden (amazing flavor!), and the Bahamian Black Bean Soup is a close second.

Hi Julianna! So sorry it has taken me a few days to get back to you, the holidays were very hectic for us! I am thrilled to know you like the site so much =) I very much appreciate the positive feedback!!

As for high dose vitamin C not being good for MS patients I have never heard of that? I know some doctors actually give intravenous vitamin C for MS patients if they feel they are getting run down. I also know vitamin C helps the body make collagen and collagen is very important for the myelin sheath (studies of the affect of vitamin C on myelin have shown high doses actually stimulate myelin formation!) However, I generally am not a big fan of mega-dosing on any one particular nutrient (especially on an ongoing basis). Having said that, Camu is a “whole food” and not an isolated form of vitamin C and it is certainly not a “mega dose” like you might get from supplements or an IV infusion.

I should have said that I take it too in the post, because I do! Here is another article where I discuss camu in more detail: https://cleancuisine.com/nutrient-deficiency/

Hope this helps? Please do let me know if you have any additional concerns.

      Happy New Year!!

  3. Would maca be beneficial for digestive health? I have adrenal fatigue and these two articles don’t really talk about maca but the second one does mention it as a good source of iodine and also that it does have hormone balancing properties. I’m very interested in trying it, until recently I had no idea what it was and had only seen that episode of “Arrested Development” where they were growing it in Mexico and hallucinating from it! Very misleading lol! https://www.drlam.com/blog/microbiome-gut-flora/23823/

Hi Frances, Oh gosh, not sure if maca would improve your digestive issues? I can’t imagine it would be harmful, I think it may just be neutral. I definitely think it would be helpful for adrenal fatigue! I would also look into adding kelp flakes as a great source of iodine. I use kelp flakes regularly and I think it has made a big difference in my energy. I hadn’t heard that about the hallucinations–YIKES!!! I assure you though if you take the recommended dose you won’t have that issue 😉
