  1. Use a steamer basket or steamer saucepan (similar to the one I use) and fill the saucepan 1-2 inches.
  2. Turn on the stove top to medium-high heat and add the lid. Wait until the water is boiling and producing steam. Typically within 5-7 minutes. If the water isn’t boiling, don’t even bother. Have a little patience for those perfect hard boiled eggs.
  3. Just add the eggs in a single layer to the steamer basket or saucepan steamer and turn heat to medium-high. Cover the saucepan.
  4. If you prefer soft-boiled eggs, then you’ll need to set your timer to 6 minutes. For semi-hard-boiled eggs, set your time for 10 minutes. For cooked-through hard-boiled eggs, go with 12-15 minutes.
  5. Remove the eggs with a spoon into a prepared bowl full of cold, icy water. Let sit in the cold icy bath for about 10 minutes. Then rinse them off under fresh cold water.
