  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the shallots, garlic and mushrooms.
  2. Season with salt and pepper and sauté, stirring frequently, until vegetables are tender, about 8 minutes.
  3. Add the kale and cook until wilted, about 6 minutes.
  4. Add the broth (or wine) and chopped dates.
  5. Bring to a boil and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  6. Season with addition salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.
