How to Make This Warm Banana Smoothie Recipe

When most people think of smoothies, they think of icy cold fruit, blended into a smooth and creamy drink. And while this is true for most smoothies, as the weather cools down, we crave warmer smoothies instead! Same concept as a typical smoothie, except we start with a hot liquid instead of cold. It’s truly the perfect way to start your chilly morning!

We started this banana smoothie off with some hot water, and then added all of the flavors of banana bread! All you need is a single ripe banana, walnuts, dates, cinnamon, vanilla, and fresh ginger, and voilà, you have banana bread in a cup! Blend it up in a high speed blender for an extra smooth, creamy smoothie. A truly great way to use those extra ripe bananas you promise yourself you’re going to make banana bread with (been there, done that)!

While we are on the subject of bananas and sugar I have to quickly address two questions I am frequently asked…

Are Bananas Good for You? Are Bananas Fattening?

Whenever I share a banana-rich recipe I am always shocked at how many times I am asked about whether bananas are in fact a healthy fruit. I get this question so often, that I actually wrote an entire article on it with much more detail than we have space to go into in this recipe post.

bananas

Here’s the deal; ALL fruits are healthy!! There is absolutely no such thing as a “fattening” fruit (or a “fattening” or unhealthy vegetable either for that matter.)

So yes, bananas are good for you. So are all other “whole” carbohydrates that are eaten in their natural and unrefined form.

Health Benefits of Bananas

Bananas are an incredibly nutrient-dense fruit, filled with phytonutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants! Here’s just a few reasons they’re so incredible for your health!

Bananas are High in Fiber, with Low Calories

One medium-sized banana is just over 100 calories. They’re also full of fiber, including resistant starch that helps control blood sugar and reduce fat storage after you eat.

Bananas May Help Lower Blood Pressure, and Support Bone Health

Bananas are full of potassium, which is beneficial in lowering blood pressure. They are also full of magnesium, which is essential for muscle and bone health.

Bananas are Full of Antioxidants

Bananas contain anti-aging antioxidants like vitamin C. They also contain anti-aging and disease-fighting phytonutrients!

Bananas Contain Amino Acids

Did you know bananas are the only fruit to contain the amino acid Tryptophan and Vitamin B6? Tryptophan and vitamin B6 work synergistically to help your body produce the feel-good neurotransmitter, serotonin.

Like stated above, this Warm Banana Smoothie was created for cold winter mornings, so you can enjoy your smoothies all year long! However, winter isn’t the only time you can enjoy this smoothie, and with a couple small modifications, you can turn this into a warm-weather smoothie as well!

If you love iced coffees as much as we do, or it’s not quite cold outside, then you may prefer your banana smoothie cold. If so, just follow the instructions below for our warm banana smoothie, but instead of hot water, use cold. Then fill a glass with ice and pour the smoothie into the glass, filling it to the top.
